What is WHMIS?
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a Canada-wide system designed to give employers and workers information about hazardous materials used in the workplace.

Our WHMIS program covers both the WHMIS 1988 and the WHMIS 2015 components, as during the transition, employees will need to recognize the symbols / pictographs for both, and understand the changes introduced by the WHMIS 2015 and Globally Hamonized System (GHS).

WHMIS involves two components: Education and Training. Action First Aid's program provides the "Educational" component and our WHMIS program is suitable for all employees, regardless of their work responsibilities. It is the responsibility of the Employer to provide the "Training" component, which is specific to each work place.

The Training component provides employees with training on how to safely handle, store, recognize and use the hazardous substances in their particular workplace, and what to do in case of emergency with those hazardous substances. As all workplaces are different and contain a variety of hazardous substances, we cannot provide the site-specific hazardous materials "training".
